Lorne’s first solo project was a two-bedroom mid-terrace house in Milton, Portsmouth, which he renovated when he was just 22. The project became a foundation for his hands-on approach and passion for property improvement.

Scope of work
Structural & Layout Adjustments
- Integrated the old external toilet into a new rear conservatory, improving layout and functionality.
- Replaced joists in the ground floor to resolve historic rot issues.
Interior Works
- Replastered all ceilings and walls.
- Installed new skirting boards, architraves, and internal doors.
- Fitted his first kitchen and bathroom suites.
- Worked alongside his brother, a carpenter, to install custom-made mahogany double-glazed windows.
Systems & Finishes
- Brought in trusted specialists for first- and second-fix electrical and plumbing work.
- Installed a new combi boiler and heating system.
- Completed all painting, decorating, and final finishes independently.
- Laid new carpets throughout to complete the project.

Results
By the end of the project, Lorne had personally managed and completed around 80% of the work, gaining invaluable experience in planning, scheduling and project delivery. The result was a fully refurbished, comfortable home and the first step in a lifelong career built on craftsmanship, attention to detail and family values.
